Blue Green Algae Outbreak

Patterson Lakes’ residents have health concerns over this year’s blue green algae bloom. It appears to be worse than previous years. They want the state government to get Melbourne Water to flush the Lakes with bore water. Melbourne Water has erected signs warning that dangerous algae levels have been detected and contact could cause illness.

Many beautiful waterways have had algae blooms, Lakes Entrance comes to mind. Normally this problem increases with nutrients getting into the water supply. The EPA does not test to measure the nutrients, this is left to Melbourne Water.
