I can’t believe in this day and age, people are rejecting free vaccinations (Anti-VAX), excluding flu vaccinations which we have to pay for. However, I’m in my 60s and the young ones have not heard, or seen, the effects that these diseases have caused in the past. I think some just take it for granted that they have good health, and don’t realise how successful the Immunise Australia Program has been.

The Immunise Australia Program funds the purchase of vaccinations to protect millions of Australians from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Whenever I look at family trees, often a number of family members have passed away with Diphtheria, which is now a preventable disease. Who would oppose the Immunise Australia Program, which prevents this disease, and lists vaccines to prevent 16 other diseases?

The National Immunisation Program (NIP) uses vaccines to prevent these diseases and their spread.

The following list contains the diseases that were once fatal, that NIP stops, by routine childhood vaccinations: -

  • Measles
  • Diphtheria
  • Whooping cough (pertussis)
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Meningococcal C

Some of the other diseases that NIP immunises against include: -

  • Tetanus
  • Hepatitis A
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Poliomyelitis
  • Varicella

Who in their right mind would oppose this program? Good on the Federal Government for taking away benefits from parents opposed to immunisation. The facts speak for themselves, and we, as a society, are all the better for immunisation.
