Finkel Report and Power Stations

One of the best options adopted by the Government from the Finkel report, was to implement the requirement of three years notice for closing a power station. This would prevent another Hazelwood situation, in which a power station was closed very quickly, without much notice, within three months I think. Not that I blame the Federal Government for Hazelwood closing, as I think part of the blame rests with the State Government, in expediting the closure by increasing tax on the company. However, the short notice of Hazelwood’s closure, is likely to affect us by power blackouts in Victoria, during Summer’s peak loads.
